E.Krauss Zeiss Stereo Jumelle 12x binoculars & caseThesebinoculars were made by E Krauss under license from Zeiss using theirdesigns and patents. M.E. Krauss founded the company in 1882, workingfrom Luetzowstrasse No 68, Berlin, Germany. By 1901 they wereestablished in Paris and in 1922 their address was 18 Rue de Naples,Paris. The association with Zeiss was established in 1896 with thismodel being produced in five different magnifications in very smallnumbers and being very similar to the Zeiss Feldstecher models. Eventhe front prism housing cover plates are marked in the typical Zeisssolder-filled script of that period.Thisparticular pair are in very good original used condition. The blackenamel paint has a small amount of edge rubbing but otherwise is verygood. The cover plates in particular are very good with thesolder-filled inscriptions still being very clear. The left hand topplate reads Stereo Jumelle Zeiss No 1914 Bte. S.G.D.G. (looselymeaning patented, without Government Warranty). The right hand platehas E. Krauss & Cie Paris. The hinge spindle cap has themagnification 12 as well as the inter-ocular distance scale. Theleather covering is also in very good condition with no tears andonly a few small scuff marks. The eye cups are original andundamaged. The lenses and prisms are clean, clear, and collimated.Both oculars focus freely but the right hand one has a very slightjudder which is likely to disappear with more use. There is a neckstrap and studs which although secure should be used with caution.Theyalso come with an original case which is in fair condition with justone side loop missing.
