CELESTRONNEXSTAR 4GTSelling my CelestronNexstar 4GT Maksutov Cassegrain telescope complete with Nexstar go to mountand steel field tripod. The telescope is the forerunner to the popular 4SE (the OTA’sappears identical apart from the colour & Star Bright XLT optics of the4SE). the telescope comes with a red dot finder (batteries required) and a 20mmPlossl lens to get you started. The 4GT has a built in diagonal/flip mirror system sothat you can mount (with the correct accessory available on line) a DSLRcamera to the rear cell for duel viewing/photography. The OTA is attached to the mount permanently – there is no dovetail bar like the 4SE.The go to mount can be used attached to thesupplied tripod or placed directly on to any flat surface thanks to its built in rubber feet (ideal for terrestrial viewing but not recommended for astronomy). Being the earlyNexstar hand controller this telescopes software cannot be upgraded. The mount can be powered using either the built-in batterycompartment (batteries not supplied) or by using an external power supply (12v or 240v) a cigarette lighter-type power lead isprovided for use with a Power Tank or similar 12v portable power source.The sturdy steel tripod has a built in equatorial wedge formore precise tracking – a must during astrophotography sessions – there are plenty of tutorials on youtube showing the wedge alignment process. I managed to lose the tripods spreader/eyepiece holder so have made one from aquality hardwood tray of similar dimensions I have drilled holes for four eyepiece. I have to say the tray works rather well atabsorbing vibration and its rim ensures things don’t fall off – I have been using one on the tripod for my 8″ SCT for a couple of years now with no problems.Condition of the OTA is generally good thereare a few small blemishes to the silver finish as you would expect. Theobjective lens is quite dust free and planetary views look fine. The mountworks great but is a bit too noisy for my liking (I also own a 4SE and thatmount is comparatively quieter when compared to the 4GT’s). The tripod is in generally good condition there are no major marksand the telescopic legs/bolts etc. are fine.I am more than happy to post the scope but wouldprefer local pick up so that you can see the scope working etc.
