Celestron NexStar 127 SLT Mak Telescope This listing is for our Celestron NexStar Maksutov-Cassegrain ‘go to’ telescope. We bought it as our first telescope and now are ready to upgrade. We have kept this in excellent order. It has always been stored inside and transported in a flight case when we took it with us in the car. It has never been used in the rain, ever, and when used at night when there was condensation, it has been thoroughly dried and not put away until we were sure it was aired properly before putting it back in the case. ( no case is included in the sale as we are keeping it for our next scope ) We used it under a fishing shelter tent and recommend getting one if you are taking this out to use at night – it reduces the condensation and keeps you a bit warmer ! We really researched scopes in the under 500 price range and this had good reviews and I am glad we got it, it was/is an excellent starter scope for us and once we got the hang of the tracking, gave us amazing views. You can buy an attachment for an SLR camera (T2 Mount) and get fantastic pictures, especially of the moon and innr planets such as mars, venus and jupiter – as a guide, the disc of the moon fills the frame as the telescope is effectively a 1500mm lens. The tracking can be calibrated using either planets, stars or just the moon. By aligning the target in the centre of the view and registering it on the handset. Once this is done, the scope will track the object you are viewing as it moves across the sky and can easily jump from one view to another at the touch of a few buttons using it’s pre-programmed sky map. It can also be used manually if you just want to view a static object. The manual is easy to understand, even if you are a total beginner. Power comes from either 8 AA batteries (some included but we don’t know how long they’ll last) or as we did with a small 12V battery (power lead with crocodile clips to clip to battery terminals included). We used a 7AH sealed battery and never managed to flatten it even on long nights out. Included in the sale are three lenses, a 9mm, a 25mm and an ultra wide 15mm long eye relief which is perfect for those that wear glasses. Also a 90 degree star diagonal which allows you to view the scope from above rather than behind (shown in photos) and of course lens/body dust caps for everything. We will post this via an insured courier and it will be packed with polystyrene and bubble wrap in a double wall box. ( not the original box ). It will arrive with you ‘ready to go’ and give you many hours of pleasure star and planet gazing.
