WWI Binoculars & Case (ROSS STEREO PRISM POWER= 6) – 1916

These “Ross Stereo Prism Power = 6” Binoculars are in very good condition. They are from the WWI period, but are not dated. The binoculars are in their original leather case which is  dated, “1916”.

Both the case and attached shoulder strap are superb.

Attached to the binoculars is a leather neck strap.

The binoculars are in full working order. They focus correctly and smoothly as they should. The lens’s are good and clear, but not perfect. There is a difficult to notice chip (small missing piece) from one of the backlite eye cups, please see photograph 12. Other than this minor chip, there is no visible damage or serious wear.

There is an abundance of Military Arrows on the binoculars, 6 in total (plus one on the leather case). Arrows are etched to the front, and to the rear, of both barrels, and there are two large yellow Arrows inlaid into the leather cover of both barrels.

The left barrel of the binoculars is engraved, “ROSS, LONDON No 70162”, with a military arrow.

The right barrel is engraved, “STEREO PRISM BINOCULAR POWER = 6” with a military arrow.

The letters “FT” are scratched into the rear of both barrels.

As mentioned the leather case is dated 1916. The case lid is marked, “CASE No 2 PRISMATIC BINOCULAR – T. FRENCH & SON LTD LONDON -1916”.

Firmly attached to the lid is a leather hand carry strap. All the brass fittings to the case and adjustable length shoulder strap are present and in good order.

Indented into the front of the case ia a Military Arrow.

At the back of the case are two loops to attach the case to a waist belt.

Buyer to pay for posting please which will be 5.50 within the UK. I will ship world side. Interested overseas buyers please contact me for exact shipping costs.

Boer War / WW1 era Binoculars / Officers Field Glasses . No makers marks Brass with sun shades.Sun shades are a bit loose and centre focus action a bit sloppy .Dust to inner lenses and oily rainbow to lower lens .All lenses unscrew so you should be able to clean up.Whilst they are not Carl Zeiss in quality ( or even in same ball park !) I was surprised to find ( for size ) they are actually not too bad in use – don’t have high expectations – you wont be able to see craters on the Moons surface but I could read number plates on cars slightly beyond my natural eyesight which is not always the case with these older Field glasses !!!!Could be cleaned up and polished or just displayed as they are .NO CASE NO MAKERS MARKS
