J H DALLMEYER 19th C TELESCOPE THREE DRAW w/ VARIABLE MAGNIFICATION TUBE VGC FWO
DescriptionA British Antique 19thC J.H. Dallmeyer, London, Marine / Field Telescope or Spyglass.
A rare example, I could not find another with which to compare it.
Nickled Brass with a Leather Bound Barrel.
Three Draw plus the Variable (20 x 25 x 30 x) Magnification Draw.
2.25 inch Objective.
Fully Closed approx’ :- 27.50 cms Long.
Open but with the extra Draw not deployed the Telescope measures approximately 30.75 Inches long.As to be expected a very well made Telescope from this Prestigious and Famed London Maker, a genuine period article dating to somewhere around the middle of the 19th Century.The Objective Lenses have some separation as shown clearly, no movement to the Lenses tho’, the relevant Lens Assembly itself is very tight so I did not attempt to dismantle it.
The peripheral separation mentioned has no detrimental effect on the view in use.
Only a small scratch to the Front Objective, as shown, all the Lenses including the internals are crack / major wear / damage free, all are present and correct, there is nothing at all detrimental to the view in focus.Focuses superbly giving a good clear and sharp image with very good magnification.The Dust Cap to the Objective End is missing.All the threaded components run well on clean threads and tighten fully with no issues.The Leather Binding is in excellent condition, with some surface scuffing but firmly in place with no losses or tears and with an intact Seam.
The Barrel feels to be in good undamaged order.Both Ends are firm with no movement.The Draws are in very good order, only one or two very shallow and very minor dents, no splits, heavy dents or major damage..The Draws are a good friction fit, moving firmly and with only very slight sideways play at the joints when fully extended. This Telescope is easy to use and to achieve a precise focus with. The Sliding Shutter on the Eyepiece end is missing.
The Rain / Sun Hood deploys firmly and stops as designed.A superb quality collectible / usable Antique Telescope.All is as shown as comprehensively as possible in the many pictures, please examine them in close up before you bid, to satisfy yourself as to condition, suitability, etc. of the item(s) shown.I always show items in their true light, and will never deliberately hide a negative or detrimental aspect.
