Carl Zeiss West (Oberkochen) 8x30B prismatic monocular serial number 583339. This monocular dates from about 1965 and was made in West Germany. Optics are very high quality indeed, with an extremely sharp, flat field of view with excellent edge definition. The “B” suffix means that it is also suitable for spectacle wearers, simply by folding down the flexible rubber eyecup which is left in the raised postion for other users and is very comfortable, excluding stray light from the sides. This is a very compact, handy monocular indeed, measuring only 10cm/3.7″ in length and 7cm/2.6″ in overall width. Weight without the case is just 250gm/9 oz. Overall condition is excellent with no faults or damage. Optics are very clear, I would score them at 90%+. There is just a trace of film on the prisms on reverse viewing, but which has no noticeable effect on optical performance or clarity. All lenses are completely free from scratches or cleaning marks and the prisms free from chips. Cosmetic conditon is excellent with just a few traces of use, for example some slight wear to the black finish of the focussing ring. Both paint and leather covering are of a high quality and so are very durable. The monocular has its original high-quality red velvet lined case and case strap, also in fine condition. A top-quality small monocular from Carl Zeiss West. The monocular will be carefully packed in a well padded box for dispatch and sent fully insured.
