CARL ZEISS JENA binoculars were produced in the old EAST GERMANY (DDR). Build quality was high but with lower prices than the CARL ZEISS west german models. This combination of value for money and great optical performance made them best sellers, with some models staying in production for over 70 years!

German
manufacturers had started making lightweight roof prism designs in the 60`s,
leitz had their trinovid range carl zeiss brought out their dialyt roof prisms
and carl zeiss jena responded with the NOTAREM models – 8 x 32 and 10 x 40 roof
prisms which both sold well.

This listing
is for an excellent and collectable Carl Zeiss Jena NOTAREM 10 x 40B dating I
think to the early 1980`s. It is in excellent order and comes in a very
complete and attractive package. The most desirable feature is that this
binocular has very recently had a professional service, with re-alignment and a
replacement prism. So a clean bill of health. NOTAREMS may have been cheaper
than their west german `cousins`, but on build quality and optical ability they
ran them very close. This one has proved a delight to use and just this morning
it gave me great views of a male Marsh Harrier drifting over the fields
opposite my house.

This NOTAREM comes
with it`s original leather case, neckstrap, leather case strap, yellow filters,
carl zeiss jena instruction booklet and a brand new unused ZEISS lens cleaning
kit which includes a dust blower, brush, lens tissues, lens cloth and fluid all
in a zeiss case. These kits usually retails for between £20 – £25 on E Bay.

Defects
are very few: very minor marks and tiny chips around the body; some minor internal
cleaning marks on one side (even professional cleaning usually leaves some
marks) and the leather case has an old repair to the lid hinge.

i take
great care examining, using and describing the binoculars i sell, and always
get a second opinion. however, i am not a professional and my description is
based on my experience and honest assessment; most examples i sell are at least
35 years old and there may be other defects…….also, please remember,
everyone`s eyes are different…..

ZEISS JENA `NOTAREM` 10 x 40B roof prism binocular; made in D.D.R.; rubber fold
down eyecups for spectacle wearers; serial number 6083270; field of view 105
metres at 1000 metres; weight 642 grams & including case & all accessories
1294 grams.

These binoculars will
be thoroughly double wrapped & packed for the purchaser and will be sent
