CARLZEISS JENA binoculars were produced in the old EAST GERMANY (DDR).Build quality was high but with lower prices than the CARL ZEISS westgerman models. This combination of value for money and great opticalperformance made them best sellers, with some models staying inproduction for over 70 years! Thislisting is for a 10 x 50W `JENOPTEM` binocular dating I believe fromthe 1980`s. It is in very pleasing condition.However, this is a Japanese made CARL ZEISS JENA jenoptem. They cameinto the U.K. in large numbers and have been called `fakes` but I believe they were eventually produced in japanunder licence using the Carl Zeiss name. They differ slightly in bodyconstruction and finish, serial numbers and in optical quality. As stated, thisone is in nice condition, it produces pleasing &clear images and all controls work very well, but comparing this witha good east german made model, you can certainly see a difference the Japanese version is optically not quite as good. This example has a black leather lined case, both neck and case straps and a new microfiber lens cleaning cloth. There are no lens caps.DEFECTS: Thereare a few marks on the body, a few internal dust specks and a littlelight internal haze and a spot on a prism in the r.h. side. the case has scuff marks and marks from old stickers previously removed.itake great care examining, using and describing the binoculars isell, and always get a second opinion. however, i am not aprofessional and my description is based on my experience and honestassessment; most examples i sell are at least 35 years old and theremay be other defects…….also, please remember, everyone`s eyes aredifferent…..SPECIFICATION:CARL ZEISS JENA JENOPTEM 10 x 50W; made in Japan; serial number:No.116741; 7 degrees field; multi-coated optics; weight 1027 grams;1553 grams including case and accessories.Thesebinoculars will be thoroughly double wrapped & packed for thepurchaser and will be sent using a tracked service within the U.K.Carriage prices quoted are to mainland U.K. please contact me fora quote if you non-mainland.Iwill send world wide using E.
