A pair of rare Carl Zeiss Jena DRP Feldstecher 8 Binoculars, in brilliant condition.
Optics are clean and all the mechanics are tidy. The binoculars focus well and I have tested them to a distance of about 300m – they were still clear and I could see a vase in a window. Some dusting on the lens but only around the very outside edges.
Old-style eyecups with a low serial number of 8275, suggesting that these particular binoculars were manufactured before 1897. This is further supported by the absence of a distance scale on the interocular hinge, which started to be added post-1897.
Fantastic original patina and original leather carry case.
These binoculars are sold as seen; there are no cracks, chips or other damage, but obviously they’re over 100 years old so have probably seen significant use!
