Carl Zeiss Jena “Dekar” 10 x 50 Binoculars serial number 750235 (1917). These powerful and sophisticated binoculars are the civilian version of the WW1 “D.F. 10X50″ manufactured 1914-1919” for use by senior officers in the German military. This example is a very rare wartime-produced civilian version, made in 1917, when officially civilian manufacture of the model by Zeiss was from 1920-30. (Possibly they were a special order for a senior German government official or foreign dignitary.) They feature retractable sunshades around the objective lenses.These particular binoculars are still in virtually new condition despite their great age. Optics are perfect, crystal clear internally with absolutely no fungus or haze, no damage/scratches to lenses or prisms and perfectly collimated. Individual eyepiece focussing is beautifully smooth and they view exceptionally well. Cosmetically they are virtually unmarked, all as close to new condition as a 100 year old binoculars can be. There is no case but they have their original black leather Zeiss lanyard. Included in the photos is the relevant page from the 1927 Carl Zeiss catalogue giving full technical details. An exceptionally fine pair of classic binoculars from one of the world’s greatest marques.
The binoculars will be carefully packed in a well padded box for dispatch and sent fully insured. I never end auctions early so there is no “buy-it-now” price.
