Carl Zeiss Jena DDR “Deltrintem” Q1 8 x 30 wide-angle multi-coated binoculars serial number 4776034 (1978). This is a pair of genuine East German Zeiss binoculars, clearly marked “DDR” and bearing the correct 7-digit serial number. The Deltrintem was the Zeiss DDR premium binocular, superior to the similar Jenoptem, and bearing the prestigious “Q1” quality mark. These glasses also feature Zeiss’s world-beating T3M multi-coated optics for maximum light transmission and optimal viewing even in difficult conditions. And the wide-angle view takes in plenty of the scenery and is also great for tracking moving objects, birdwatching, sports etc.  The combination of “Q1” quality and T3M multi-coatings make these classes exceptionally fine compact binoculars.They are in full working order,  crystal-clear internally and nicely collimated – i.e. no double image. They focus very smoothly producing a bright,  pin-sharp image, Carl Zeiss optical excellence at its finest. There are some very light cleaning marks on the lenses, as is often found on older binoculars. Also, there is a tiny star-shaped blemish in the left hand objective lens (photo). These are  found in some the multi-coated lenses and are due to the optical cement aging and do not affect the performance. Cosmetic condition is good with light wear to the paint. There is also a tiny dent on the edge of the right prism housing by the screw head (see photo.) They are sold with their original solid-leather luxury top-loading case with a very attractive and unusual grey velvet lining. There is also the case shoulder strap and black leather binocular lanyard. Top quality compact binoculars ready to give many years of enjoyable use.
