Carl Zeiss Jena DDR “Deltrintem” 8 x 30 multi-coated binoculars serial number 6740358 ( 1988 ). This is a pair of genuine East German Zeiss binoculars clearly marked “DDR” and with the correct 7-digit serial number. The Deltrintem was the premium-range Zeiss 8 x 30 binocular, hand-built from carefully selected components. This late example also benefits from the revolutionary “T3M” multi-coated optics, introduced by Zeiss DDR as a world-first in 1977 for optimal viewing even in the most challenging of low-light conditions. And they also have the special luxury top-loading case, rather than the cheaper camera-style case of the Jenoptem. These binoculars are in very close to “as new” condition in all respects. They are faultless optically and mechanically and internally they are crystal clear, totally free from fungus, dust and haze. All lenses and prisms are in perfect condition without any scratches or chips and the deep blue T3M coatings are unmarked. Collimation is perfect with no trace of a double image or eyestrain. Centre focussing and right diopter adjustments work very smoothly, all this making them a real pleasure to use.  Cosmetically they are unmarked, the paint still with its original semi-mat sheen and the leather smelling fresh and new. They produce a bright, pin-sharp wide-field image and are a very versatile compact binocular suitable for a wide range of uses.
