Carl Zeiss Jena DDR “Deltrintem” 8 x 30 binoculars serial number 5187357 (1980). This is a pair of genuine East German Zeiss binoculars clearly marker “DDR” and with the correct 7-digit serial number. The Deltrintem was one of the most popular and long-lived Zeiss models, in production from 1920-1990 being added to their premium range by Zeiss DDR and given their prestigeous “Q1” quality mark, reserved for only the company’s finest products. The model’s lasting success was based on it being compact and light. Added to this was wide-angle optics taking in plenty of the scenery and also perfect for tracking fast-moving action such as in sports, bird watching etc. This particular model also has the big extra benefit of full T3M multi-coated optics, a world first for Zeiss DDR, enhancing low-light performance such as at dawn and dusk.  For full technical details please see the catalogue page included in the photos.
These particular binoculars are totally faultless and virtually like new. Optics are perfect, crystal-clear, no fungus, haze or dust and perfectly collimated – no “double image.” There is no damage to prisms, no chips, crack or scratches or cleaning marks to lenses or their deep purple T3M coatings. Centre focus is beautifully smooth and right diopter adjustment fully functional. The binoculars produce a bright, pin-sharp image, well up to the legendary Carl Zeiss optical standard. Cosmetics are virtually perfect, immaculate and unmarked. The binoculars have their original solid leather luxury top-loading case, case shoulder strap and black leather binocular lanyard. In short a T3M multi coated Deltrintem in mint condition – probably the ultimate Zeiss 8 x 30 binocular.
The binoculars will be carefully packed in a well padded box for dispatch and sent fully insured. I never end auctions early so there is no “buy-it-now” price.
