Carl Zeiss Jena BLC 7X50 U-Boat Binoculars
CarlZeiss Jena BLC 7×50 U-Boat Binoculars. Made exclusively for theGerman U-boat service in WW2 and regarded by many as the bestbinoculars ever produced by Zeiss with outstanding opticalperformance even by to-day’s standards. They also have the deepblue Zeiss “T” optical coatings, a German military secretuntil 1945 and only used on the very finest instruments. The coatingsin particular very effectively enhance low-light(dawn/dusk)performance. What makes this example stand out is theoutstanding optical performance, by far the best of any of the modelI have tried. This stems from the excellent condition of the opticalcomponents. All lenses and prisms are totally free from damage(cracks or chips) as are the optical coatings. And both the eyepieceand objective lenses have none of the cleaning marks often found. The previous owner also had them professionally overhauled by aspecialist so internals are crystal-clear and the individual eyepiecefocussers work very smoothly, the cente hinge also moving smoothly. Ihave examined the binoculars very carefully and all I could find wasa faint scratch mark on the inside of the left objective lens (justvisible in the photo.) So I would give them a score of 95% optically(compared with a brand-new factory fresh example.) Cosmetically theyclearly have issues as is clear in the photos. They have lost most oftheir original green paint and the red (lead oxide) undercoat can beseen in places, also some bare metal. Also the rubber shoulder armourhas been replaced with high quality new items and the alloy pins, which were worn, replaced with brass copies. The setscrew on thebridge hinge shearded its head off so a replacement was made andfitted. All original parts have been carefully retained (see photo)and are included in the sale. The binoculars bear the serial number55058 for 1943/45 and the German military code “blc” forCarl Zeiss Jena. If you want to know how well one of these historicbinoculars can perform, this is the one to buy! Weight 1.75 kgs, dimensions length 20 cms, width 22 cms, height 8 cms. The binocularswill be carefully packed in a well-padded box for dispatch and sentfully tracked and insured.UK Royal Mail Special Delivery is 25.  No sales for this item outside of the UK.Payment by cheque only (no paypal) Thank you.
