CARL ZEISS AUS JENA FLEKTOGON M 7 X 40W SUPER S ” VERY RARE ” This auction is for a Excellent pair of Rarebinoculars rarely seen for sale on Ebay. They were produced in Jena EastGermany in 1969 and the serial number is 3623634 They have the original case invery good condition the maroon velvetinterior is virtually unmarked and theyalso have the original case strap and lanyard which are also excellent.This vintage Carl Zeiss Aus Jena Flektogon wasproduced for the US and the Canadian market, however as there brand could not be used for legal reasons,hence the Aus Jena label was introduced This modelwas the civilian version of the DF 7 x 40 or “Checkpoint Charlie “asit is often called and was used by theEast German NVA or Nationale Volks Armee , by the patrol guards for continuous surveillance duties. Thecosmetic condition appears to show no wear whatsoever and the superb lacquerfinish on the body work is as new, (the lacquer finish is quite remarkable ) The centre focus wheel works verysmoothly and the adjustments are perfectOptically this pair of binoculars is in superbcondition ,have noted that the objective lens appear to have has some faintpolishing marks ? however this has no effect whatsoever on theimage produced which is without doubt second to none. They give a superbbright and sharp image and with the eyecups extending from about 10mm to 20mmabove the eye lens, are ideal for thespectacle user as the full field of viewis available. Reverseviewing reveals a spotless interior but looking down into the right handobjective I can see a small ( 2mm ? )circular patch ( not at all sure if thismay be fungus ) ) however the imageproduced is not affected when using the binocular in normal manor ( please lookat the photograph ) and I also confirmthat the collimation is perfect. Allfocusing function are smooth and positive and these are a fine pair ofbinoculars and will I am sure make a valuable addition to any collector orindeed any user as they are a delight to use and the performance of themoutstanding, giving stunning panoramic images.
