BuschWinett binoculars or opera glasses – James A Sinclair, London c1915These petite and ingenious opera glasses were manufactured by the renowned German company of Busch, and share the same high standard of manufacturing quality seen in larger binoculars. They are very nicely designed and engineered to be small enough to fit into a pocket or purse, yet powerful enough for use both as opera glasses and binoculars. The folding design is very ingenious. The barrels fold out first, then the eye cups pull out, before then being able to twist them in and out to focus.They were sold by James A. Sinclair & Co. Ltd., who were a company established in the very early 1900s making and selling a wide variety of photographic, scientific, and ophthalmic instruments, from their premises at 54 Haymarket, London. This particular pair have highly polished steel and brass components with the barrels covered in striking pink snakeskin. They are in perfect working order with clear, undamaged lenses.They are nicely engraved with the makers name, Busch Winett Binocular Pat. Appd. for, on one side and James A. Sinclair & Co. Ltd. 54 Haymarket, London. S.W. on the other.They come with a dark green suede drawstring pouch.The glasses measure just 65mm x 25mm x 35mm when fully closed.
