Busch “Bislux” 6 x 24 Binoculars serial number 307549. Compact binoculars made by one of Germany’s leading optical manufacturers Emil Busch, Rathenow (1845-1945.) These small binoculars feature top-quality optics, on a parr with Germany’s finest, with a pin-sharp image, very flat field and excellent edge definition, designed to compete directly with similar models from Zeiss, Leitz etc. The high serial number strongly indicates production for military use during WW2.  The robust leather case features a belt loop, typical of military types, the button flap also being a military feature.  Optics of this particular example are excellent, I would score at 95%. They are crystal-clear internally with no fungus or haze, nicely collimated (no double image) and with very smooth individual eyepiece focussers. All lenses and prisms are undamaged. The binoculars produce a bright, clear image with a usefully wide field, fit nicely into the hand and are generally a real pleasure to use. They weigh just 500gms and measure a compact 15 cm wide, 10cm long and 4 cm high. As to cosmetic condition, leather is excellent and there is just the normal age-related wear (“brassing”) to the paint (see photos.) And so they are in very good condition for binoculars of that age. It is also nice to find them still with all their original accessories, black leather lanyard, button flap and their original solid leather case bearing the “Busch” name (photo).  (The case shoulder strap is very worn but would serve as a pattern for a new replacement to be made.)  Whatever their actual history, a really charming and handy classic binocular from one of the world’s leading marques. The binoculars will be carefully packed in a well padded box for dispatch and sent fully insured. I never end auctions early so there is no “buy-it-now” price.
