Barr & Stroud CF46 15 x 60 Observation Binoculars serial number 118430 and case. The CF 46 was the largest and most powerful (in terms of magnification ) civilian binocular in the post-WW2 Barr & Stroud range, intended for long-distance observation. The model was also the only to have huge 60mm objective lenses for maximum light gathering. Overall length is 11″/28 cms and weight, without case,1.3 kgs. Production of the CF 46 began in 1949 and the serial number here indicates 1955. And like all of the post-war glasses, it received fully coated optics for optimised viewing even in challenging lighting conditions. These particular glasses have just been fully professionally overhauled by Glasgow Binocular Repairs, probably the leading UK firm for repair and restoration of valuable historic optics of all types. (See photos for scan of invoice.) So internal optics are absolutely crystal-clear and collimation perfect. Also both centre focus and right diopter adjustments are beautifully smooth. The binoculars view very well indeed with a bright, clear image, the high magnification shrinking distances most impressively. So optically they are A1. Cosmetic condition is very good, with just some very minor wear and some slight flaking of the paint. The leather covering is in fine condition with no visible signs of wear. They are sold with their original case, bearing the company name (see photo) and with a brand new black leather lanyard, the original having been lost. Certainly one of the best remaining examples of this very impressive British binocular. Packed weight will exceed 2 kgs so I can only mail to EU destinations due freight costs but I can provide postage estimates to other buyers if requested.
