Barr& Stroud CF30 7 x 50 binoculars serial number 15013 (1938.) TheGlasgow firm of Barr & Stroud stands out as one of the great 20th century producers of precision optics and also as a majorsupplier to the armed forces of Britain through two world wars. ThisCF30 model was adopted in 1934 by the Royal Navy as a prism binocular”For All Conditions” (William Reid) though this particularexample was made for the UK civilian market where it remained in production until  the 1960’s. FOV is quoted as 121 yds@ 1000 yds. These fine glasses have just been  cleaned and fully serviced by one of Europe’s leading optical specialists so they view now just as well as when they first left the Anniesland, Glasgow factoryin 1938. Even the best cared for binoculars develop haze over theyears but experiencing them here as when they were first made is a revelation, optics as clear as a wine glass, perfectly collimated,smooth focussing. (What appears as dust s on reverse viewing is in fact minute surface scratches on one of the prisms, common in older glassesand having no effect on viewing.) These are light, beautifullybalanced binoculars, a joy to use, especially in such amazing opticalcondition. As to cosmetics, they have been well cared for and justshow the normal light wear to  paint typical of 80 yearsrecreational use, leather covering still pristine. They have their original solid English leather casewith red velvet lining, case shoulder strap and blackbinocular lanyard. Fine classic British binoculars in A1 opticalcondition. The Viking Optical invoice will be provided tothe successful bidder (as a copy since it covers several items.) Thebinoculars will be carefully packed in a well padded box for dispatchand sent fully insured. I never end auctions early so there is no”buy-it-now” price.
