Thank you.Antique Late Victorian VintageEnglish Mahogany covered Brass Cased Gentleman’s Three Draw TelescopeByTroughton & Simms Fleet Street London EnglandC1890A lovely rare English original late Victorian period antique brass three draw marine ships telescope by Troughton & Simms London England.The objective lens with cover to protect lens from damage to mahogany clad main body with heavy brass mounts and three draw’s, eye piece having fully functioning slide dust cover.  The instrument is in excellent vintage working order returning a fine sharp image.Troughton & Simms began business in London during 1826. Edward Troughton (1756-1835) learned the trade from his father John Troughton a leading instrument maker in London during the 18th Century. William Simms (1793-1860) was an excellent craftsman and business, under his leadership the company based in Fleet Street London thrived, making instruments for The Greenwich Observatory, Imperial surveys and many exploratory expeditions to the new world. There Fleet street shop became the hub for some of the finest scientific instruments available in London and known throughout the world. In 1916 the business became a limited company and in 1922 merged with T. Cooke & Sons becoming Cooke, Troughton & Simms which in turn became Vickers Instruments in 1963 until 1988.
