If You would like this item bid on it now as like me you may forget to come back and miss out on a fine item!!!Antique Victorian VintageMahogany Cased Library TelescopebyNegretti & ZambraMakers To The AdmiraltyLondonC1890A very nice original antique brass four draw top telescope by Negretti & Zambra with anodised brass tripod all within a fine brass mounted travel case.The objective lens with cover has a slide sun shield to leather clad main body then four draws, the first is marked “Negretti & Zambra makers to the Admiralty London” in italics with eye piece having fully functioning slide dust cover. The instrument is in excellent working order, it returns a fine sharp image, all lenses have been removed, checked and cleaned then oiled before refitting. The scope fits well to tripod which in turn is firm and rigid making this a very useable item.Negretti & Zambra Makers to the Admiralty London England
Established in 1850 by Enrico Angelo Ludovec Negretti(1818-1879) and Joseph Warren Zambra (1822-1887) The company was highly successful from the outset having shops firstly in Regents street and later Holborn Viaduct. Counting amongst there customers the Astronomer Royal, Prince Albert, the Royal Observatory and Admiral Robert Fitzroy. The business was run by them and there descendents until well after WW11 and they became one of the finest scientific instrument makers in the world.
