Description:An unusual and uncommon Antique French folding binocular or opera glassmade of brass with nickel plated finish. It has a very clever storage system whereby each lens tube folds around the eyepiece which slides into the lens tube, creating its own storage case. The central knob is engraved: “BtS.G.D.G”, which indicates that the design was patented in France. Unfortunately, there is no makers name.Condition / Defects:The binocular is in very good condition; one front lens has damage to the glass right at the edge (see photo). Each section is stiff to slide into the tubes, and may require a little service to make them function better. Black paintwork around the front lenses worn off, and they may have had grips around the tubes, which are no longer present.Please supersize the photos to see better.Dimensions:Approx: length of tube when stored 4″ (115mm), length of tubes when fully extended 3″ (85mm), length retracted 3″ (75mm).******************I amhappy to answer any questions – please useeBay Messageswhich I review on a regular basis.
