This advert is to raise money for our Heritage conservation Group.
The 6 inch Cooke telescope is situated in Hesketh Park – Southport – Merseyside.
The product for sale is annual membership of the group with periodic updates of special events, and your name entered in our list of members for public view.
The telescope is fine with no real problems at all.
The dome is the problem, it does not rotate.
It was refurbished at substantial cost only about 8 years ago,the wooden dome was clad with copper ( way to much additional weight) the consequence being
the dome and flat top roof are twisted out of true and the Construction Company went into Liquidation some time afterwards.
We have estimates of 40,000 plus.
Our group activities have raised approx 2,000 so there is a very long way to go !!!
Even with funding from the council it will be a very big ask.
So please support us, even with words of encouragement, but preferably with Cash, sorry to be blunt.
for your interest we have just had a open day, when our team and a quite a few of the Public wore Victorian Dress, we had a Jazz Band, a guy on a Penny farthing
coconut shi and several scopes for the Public to look through.
An AMAZING 500 people came to look and we raised 120 for the cause.
In a word a cracking day!!
The ist three photos show the scope.
the forth shows me as a Victorian labourer- about right i think
the fifth my Wife and my very silly Staffi
The remaining are various shots of the day.
